TIMESPANNERS SAMBA BAND
On May 6th 2000 the participants of Timespan were invited to
participate in a parade to mark the opening of the Newbury Spring
Festival.
The group quickly organised themselves into a Samba band, under the
leadership of percussionist Paul Midgely, although at that time they
only had African drums and hand percussion rather than genuine Samba
drums.
The event was a tremendous success, which you can access elsewhere on
this site, and all the participants expressed a wish to do more Samba
playing. As luck would have it, by July Paul Midgely managed to
acquire a full set of Samba drums for use with his Basingstoke based
Drum Runners Group.
So... we had the enthusiasm, we had the drums, we had the leader and
with our Newbury Spring Festival gig under our belts we were starting
to gain a reputation.
We were invited to do five gigs over the Summer (see below)
and interest in the band is so strong that it looks like Timespanners
Samba band is going to become a feature of events in West Berkshire in
the 2001 - 2002 season.
If you would like to book the band for an event next year, would like
a gig list or would like to become a friend of Timespanners then
